About us

“How cool would it be to organize our own unique sports event with a positive festival vibe?”

That was the question that formed the foundation for the establishment of the Tiger Throwdown Foundation.

Three sports friends from the Venlo region, active in the world of CrossFit and who had gained not only athletic enjoyment but also a strong sense of community from it, asked themselves this question during a city walk in November 2023. They decided not to hesitate but to go for it, and this marked the beginning of the first Tiger Throwdown event, which took place on June 8, 2024.

An outdoor sports event with mixed teams of four people, in which at least half of the team members had to come from the direct community of the founders. Disciplines such as CrossFit, bootcamp, obstacle runs, Hyrox, and similar sports formed the basis of the athletic part of the event.

All of this was framed by a great festival vibe with music, food, and a lively afterparty.

The first edition quickly grew larger than expected and received nothing but positive feedback regarding the unique character and atmosphere for both beginner and more experienced athletes… and that left everyone wanting more.

To organize an even bigger and more professional second edition in 2025, a foundation was officially established through a notarial deed and registration with the Chamber of Commerce.
The Tiger Throwdown Foundation officially came into existence on February 20, 2024.

Fully in line with the original feel-good and community spirit, this non-profit foundation aims to:

Promote a healthy physical and mental lifestyle without profit motives.

An increasing number of teams now compete for a charity of their own choosing that aligns with the foundation’s mission and vision. The foundation, in turn, makes a contribution to these chosen charities based on the ranking of the teams during the annual sports event.

In 2026, the foundation aims to obtain ANBI (Public Benefit Organization) status in order to further strengthen its objectives, operate transparently, increase trust, and make donations fiscally attractive.

In this way, the foundation hopes to achieve even more in pursuing its social goals.

In addition to its own events, the foundation and its supporters also assist with other events in the region that align with the mission and vision of the foundation.

If you are interested in contributing to this edition as a sponsor or partner, please contact the organization to discuss the available opportunities.

Following the first edition in 2024, the Tiger Throwdown Foundation was officially established prior to the second edition. This gave the organization of the event a more professional structure and also introduced a charity component, with the 33 participating teams competing for causes of their choice.

June 14, 2025 turned out to be an extremely warm day (temperatures above 30°C). Teams pushed themselves to their athletic limits and afterwards eagerly sought cooling in the swimming pond or at one of the installed water stations. This actually contributed to the desired festival atmosphere of the event.

Due to a brief threat of extreme weather conditions in the afternoon, the event was temporarily paused for safety reasons. As a result, the planned final workout unfortunately had to be cancelled. The final results were therefore determined based on the scores after the four regular workouts.

The first edition of Tiger Throwdown on June 8, 2024 was a special one.

What started as a fun day of working out and celebrating with friends quickly grew larger than expected and turned into a great success. Sixteen teams of four athletes from the Netherlands and Germany competed on a beautiful day in Boekend (municipality of Venlo) across two divisions.

An interesting detail is that part of the board of the foundation that was later established not only organized the event that day, but also participated in the competition themselves. While this was enjoyable, it was quickly concluded that for future, larger editions this would no longer be an option.

The 2024 edition can therefore be considered a successful pilot year.

other Events

The founding partner RxD Gear has been organizing the Niederrhein Throwdown together with CrossFit Grefrath (Germany)—the box where all Tiger Throwdown board members train—since 2023.

Members of the foundation’s board have been actively involved in this event every year, contributing as crew members, judges, and volunteers, while also participating in the competition themselves in several editions.

Lessons learned from organizing events are actively shared between the organizations, allowing both events to continuously improve and grow.

PARTNERS & SPONSORS

Founding partners

Some companies and individuals have been fundamentally involved with Tiger Throwdown, often since day one, as supporters of the initiative.

They have provided support—often without any direct benefit to themselves—that has been essential to the development of the organization, from the very first event to where it stands today and where it aims to grow in the future.

Event Partners & Sponsors

In addition to these founding partners, the organization relies on event partners and sponsors who each contribute in their own way to the realization of the events. Their support is essential for organizing Tiger Throwdown.

Each year, the organization invites all partners to attend the event as VIP guests, allowing them to experience the sporting spectacle they help make possible.

An overview of sponsors for each edition can be found on the dedicated event page of that specific edition.

Crew & Volunteers

Organizing an event such as Tiger Throwdown also requires the commitment of many volunteers. This includes tasks such as building and dismantling the event site, judging workouts, supporting catering, and assisting with various logistical activities.

Every year, the foundation can rely on a group of crew members who voluntarily dedicate their free time to contribute to the event and support the foundation’s goals.

Without these volunteers, Tiger Throwdown would not be possible.

Charities

The foundation allows teams to choose from a list of verified charities for which they compete. These charities are selected because, in the opinion of the board, they align with the mission, vision, and objectives of the foundation.

Based on the final results of the event, the foundation makes a financial contribution on behalf of the ranked teams to the charity they have selected. The amount of the contribution is determined by the board for each event, taking into account the foundation’s other obligations and the need to ensure its long-term continuity.
